Are Your Beliefs Spoiling Your Life?

February 22nd, 2012

Copyright 2006 Christopher Green

Throughout your life, you have formed a set of values and meanings to make sense of the world you live in. These values and meanings constitute your beliefs and your beliefs are what you hold to be true about life. Your beliefs are at the core of your existence and you wouldnt be the person you are now without them.

Beliefs are very important. The only reason you act and behave the way you do is because of your beliefs. For example, people who believe in God will act in a way conducive with their belief praying or going to church for example. If you dont believe in a God, it is very unlikely youll pray to one.

This pattern follows in most areas of our lives and here are three very powerful beliefs that can hurt you and spoil your quality of life. They are beliefs common to stress, anxiety and depression and they underpin these illnesses. Do you hold any or all of the following beliefs:

1. Im helpless and hopeless. I cant do anything, things are totally beyond my control and there’s no point in trying to do anything about it because nothing I do ever works. This is a very powerful and limiting belief. If you believe that you are helpless, then you will act accordingly because you wont take action to change things. Why would you if you strongly believe it is a hopeless cause? Helplessness is learned and it is also flawed. Many people are blind to the power they possess and a belief in helplessness keeps them in the dark. But just as helplessness is learned, it can be unlearned.

2. Nobody loves me. Im an effort to be with, I bore people and I never have anything interesting to say. Its much better if I stay alone and dont inflict myself on others and spoil their happiness. OK, it was very hard for me to write the last few lines because theyre exactly what someone I loved dearly said to me on many occasions when we were due to socialize with friends. Hearing such words cuts you to ribbons, my word it is such a destructive belief. If you believe this, you will act accordingly by isolating yourself from others. Youll find excuses so you dont have to go out and when you do, you will sit in silence and try to melt into the background. And as you wont be engaging with others, this belief will be re-enforced. Another aspect: people who believe this will put themselves down when others question them. So, someone says youre quiet tonight, are you OK? Will get a well, thats me, I havent really got anything interesting to say so Ill keep quiet and not bore anyone. Honestly, Ive seen this happen many times. Even when theyve been loved, even when theyve had family and friends who loved them and enjoyed their company, this belief blinded them to all of it. Can you see how the belief comes first no matter what is happening in reality? In other words, it is THE BELIEF causing the harm, not others. Not family, not friends, but the belief and if you strongly believe this, nothing will convince you otherwise until you start to question and test this belief.

3. Finally, perhaps the most limiting belief of all. Be honest with me here when I ask: Do you believe it is wrong to be blissfully happy? The obvious immediate reaction is yes, of course!. But stop for a second because this is important. Very few people truly believe this. They see others struggle in life and believe that it is wrong to be happy while others suffer. Feeling happy makes them feel guilty. Also, you may hold a deep-seated belief that there has to be suffering in life, that somehow, suffering brings enlightenment. If you are happy, then youre selfish and this is wrong because the happiness of others comes before yours and you must sacrifice your happiness for the greater good. But you have a right enjoy a happy life. There is no value in suffering and there is nothing to feel guilty about in being happy. Believing otherwise will mean you will act in a way that spoils happiness and continually robs it from you.

Please examine the beliefs you hold. Question their validity and if theyre making you stressed, anxious or depressed, then please understand they can be unlearned and replaced with better ones.

Until next time.

Motorcycle Sun Glasses Help You See The Road Better

February 22nd, 2012

Motorcycle sun glasses, fishing sunglasses whatever you call them, they have the same properties. These sunglasses have polarized lenses and are shatterproof making them exceptional as motorcycle sun glasses. When you ride along on your motorcycle, there is always the chance that some small piece of debris will fly up and hit you. With these designer sun glasses, you get double the protection.

Many people have the idea that motorcycle sun glasses are heavy glasses, much like a helmet. They are extremely light, with some of them such as the Arnette sunglasses being made of nylon frames. The added feature of being able to add your prescription to the lenses means that you dont have to go to an optician to get special prescription sunglasses.

With the advantage of being able to order your motorcycle sun glasses on line, you can browse the online catalog of your favorite designer. Look at the Nike, Costa del Mar, Hobie and many other types of sunglasses to find the style and color that you want. Then all you have to do is add your prescription as an email attachment and you will get prescription sunglasses ready to wear.

The companies that manufacture the motorcycle sun glasses take great care in the process to make sure the lenses are specially handcrafted and provide precise vision. The lenses are polarized in these sunglasses so that you do not get any glare from the reflection of the sun when it strikes the road. The lenses are made specifically for your prescription and you will be able to see just as well with prescription sunglasses as you can with your regular eyeglasses.

The lenses for motorcycle sun glasses go through strict testing to make sure they can withstand the pressure of the wind and extreme temperatures. Wearing regular or prescription sunglasses is just as important during the winter as it is during the summer. The reflection from the sun and the snow can damage your eyes just as much as UV rays can. You can ride along in style with the sunglasses you need and look cool.

If you like motorcycles, you need motorcycle sun glasses.

Are You Stressed by Studying for Exams? Study More Efficiently!

February 22nd, 2012

Whether you are learning a new language or a subject like geography, these simple tips could save you hours of study time – and result in higher marks.

HIGHLIGHTING FUNDAMENTALS

You have probably used highlighters in textbooks and study notes; but are you getting the most out of them?

To learn anything, you must repeat the material. You go over it again – and again – and again. Then when you are confident that you have learned the information, you progress to more studying. However, this repetition process also means that you are wasting time going over facts and information you already know.

Don’t do it!

After you have learned about 80% of the material, use a yellow highlighter to mark everything that has eluded you. Next time through, concentrate on only the yellow areas. Try the memorization process a few more times until you have absorbed about 80% of the yellow text. Then do it again, marking over top of the yellow with a pink highlighter. This produces an orange shade. Spend more time memorizing everything with orange highlights.

This highlighting process produces three sections:

* Easy – no highlighting

* Moderately difficult – yellow highlighting

* Difficult – orange highlighting

The closer you get to an exam, the more time you should spend on the orange areas. They are your personal stumbling blocks. The 5%-10% of unknown material usually causes 95% or more of exam errors.

MAGNETISM – AND NOT THE PERSONAL KIND!

A magnetic metal clipboard can be a useful studying tool. If you don’t have one, you can use a small magnetic dry-erase board and a bulldog clip. You will also need a small refrigerator magnet (the flat business-card type that is distributed by dentists and plumbers).

Clip a page of study notes onto the board and use the fridge magnet to cover the answers. If the telephone rings or you are distracted by raiding the fridge for a snack, the magnet will keep track of your place on the page.

Experiment to see how many pages you can clip onto the board at one time before the magnet refuses to stick. You might be able to work with a pile of 5 or more sheets. Go through the first one, put it on the bottom of the pile, and proceed to the next.

After exams are finished, you can recycle photocopies or printouts by turning them over and using the other side of each page. You might even want to make your own notepads.

Carefully line up a stack of paper. Lay the stack on the edge of a table or desk and set a couple of heavy books on top. Use notepad glue or white glue to paint the ends. Once the glue dries, remove the books and separate the pile into manageable notepads.

RESOURCES:

Are you having trouble finding notepad glue? Try an internet search for ‘make notepads’.

You don’t have a magnetic clipboard? Try an internet search for ‘magnetic clipboard’.

What Is Optimal Health Anyway?

February 22nd, 2012

This happened to me recently. I had a woman attend one of my health lectures using a walker. She had just come from dialysis and was wearing a surgical boot. I asked her if she had any health concerns, and she said no. Thats right, she told me that apart from the wound in her foot that wouldnt heal and her failing kidneys she was otherwise in good health.

Im very thankful to live in a world with such amazing, life-saving technology as dialysis, but Im also amazed that someone in this state would consider herself to be in a good state of health.

What does it mean to be healthy anyway? It stands to reason that there should be an accepted definition of health to use as a starting point. It so happens that the World Health Organization has one.

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

This definition has not been changed since 1948. It pretty much says it all.

The word health comes from the same root word that gives us the word holy. Its about being whole. Being healthy is about being in balance. Balance doesnt mean that you never lean to one side or the other. Balance is about how quickly you come back to center. Physical health is greatly influenced by genetics, environment and diet. Someone who falls and receives a scrape should expect to heal. First their genes will influence potential. Some people may not form blood clots well. Some people may have other disorders that slow their ability to rebuild tissue. Others heal very quickly.

The environment may influence healing processes as well. If you keep scraping your knee, how quickly would you expect it to heal? Damaging influences need to be taken away. What other things are affecting your body that it is also trying to deal with? If your body is trying to deal with constant lung irritation due to bad air, the resources of your body might not be able to cover other battles, like an infected wound.

Diet is about raw materials. You are what you eat. If you are providing your body with good foods that are not saturated with preservatives you have the raw materials the cells need to perform the tasks of healing. Sometimes it is difficult to eat the recommended amounts of fresh whole foods on a daily basis, so high-quality dietary supplements can help ensure that you have the raw materials your body needs.

Studies have shown that people with better diets seem to enjoy better health. This means that they still get sick from time to time. They are still at the same risk for car accidents and paper cuts. What makes them healthier than others is measured by how quickly they come back to their balance. How is your state of balance??

Digital Photo Processing Online – How Easy Is It?

February 22nd, 2012

For Pick-up or Mail-order

As the online digital photo revolution evolves we see changes happening so rapidly that it is hard to keep up. We now have the option of uploading our pictures to a professional photo developer who can print crystal clear digital photos. Locations are popping up everywhere that will do this photo printing and are in your area. They are sometimes difficult to find and are sometimes where you would least expect them.

The days of printing from home are over

We have all been disappointed with our personal photo printers and have long since given up printing them ourselves. We have waited for a long time just looking at our photos on computer screens, palm pilots and cell phones. Now with faster internet connections sweeping the country it is easy and fast to upload our photos to a professional developer for processing and printing that is of very high quality.

Easy uploading

By putting your photos on your computer the usual way, with a USB cable or plugging your memory card directly to your computer, you can have your photos ready for uploading. Uploading is simple. from the website where you are doing the uploading you simply browse to the files where all of your photos are saved and select them one by one or as a group depending on the site that will print your photos.

Pick-up at the location is available everywhere

Picking your photos up at the location is available everywhere. The beauty of this is that 1 hour developing has now paved the way for people to want their photos quickly. With many photo processors digital photos can be available for pick-up in less than 1 hour.

If you don’t want to leave the house mail delivery is easy and reliable

For those of you who are pressed for time running to the location to get photos is not an option no matter how fast they are printed and made ready for you. Prints can be mailed to you in a timely manner and is often FREE. This is a great option and the cost is even better. It is like printing your pictures to your mailbox.

Adventure Travel – Close And Cheap

February 22nd, 2012

Adventure travel is becoming more popular all the time. It can be very expensive, though, and even a bit too dangerous for some of us. It doesn’t have to either, though. Here are a few ideas for small adventure?s you can afford. They are followed by a definition of adventure that will help you add your own to the list.

Try treasure hunting. Rent or buy a metal detector and spend a relaxing but interesting weekend finding coins, jewelry and who-knows-what in the sand at the beach. No beach nearby? Look up the historical records for your town, to see where old picnic grounds were. Treasure hunters regularly find old coins at places like these.

Take climbing lessons. Whether this is on Mount Ranier in Washington, or Mount Washington in New Hampshire, it’s sure to be an adventure. At least it will be more exciting than my trip up a local sledding hill with my ice-axe and crampons.

Travel form monastery to monastery. Make it a spiritual adventure or just relax. Most monasteries take in visitors, and usually have reasonably priced accommodations. The Buddhist ones in particular are most often in beautiful places.

Do a hot springs tour. This is for those who live in the west. Get a guide to hot springs or copy directions off the internet. Bring swimming suits (optional at some, for the more adventurous), towels and a cooler full of refreshments. Want more adventure? Seek out the ones that you have to hike into the wilderness to find.

The Cheapest Adventure Travel

Find and summit the highest peak in your state. This might be less-than-adventurous in some states, but it will at least be an excuse to get outside and get some good exercise. Be sure to bring your camera for the summit shot. You might try the highest point in the next state over for your next adventure trip.

Investigate and find the nearest hidden swimming holes. The best ones are ones that require a hike to get to. Watch for people heading down a trail with swimsuits and a cooler. Nobody hikes in swimsuit and drags a cooler into the woods, unless there is water involved.

Play Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Locate the nearest river that is large enough and has some public forest. Then build a raft from dead trees and float downstream for a day. We usually started by hiking upstream for an hour or more, so we could float back to the car.

A vagabond trip. Pack enough clothing and snacks for several days and just start driving, with no destination in mind. Who knows where you’ll end up, and what you’ll discover. Pack a tent or camp in your car to keep it really affordable.

That last one is a classic adventure trip in my book. Adventure is any activity you engage in that is new to you and doesn’t have a predictable outcome. It doesn’t need to be dangerous to be interesting and fun, and could even include a trip to the nearest large city for a weekend tour of the nightclubs. Of course, depending on the places you choose, this could be fairly dangerous adventure travel.

Yes! You Can be a Food Gourmet and a Skilled Gourmet Cook Too

February 22nd, 2012

Yes, even you can cook up wonderful meals and impress your loved ones!

Ever thought that gourmet cooking is not for you, or that you do not cook well? Then it’s time to totally change your mindset from today…

Anyone and everyone can easily pick up cooking skills; younger or older, ladies and even the guys. It doesn’t matter what your skill level is today; you can do much better and make great dishes like the chefs at your favorite restaurants. And what’s more, the meals you cook will be done to perfection – your kind of perfection. And you know what the best part is? You already have the most important ingredient… you know what great food is!

Let’s show you the way… experimental cooking is putting YOU in charge – you’re the boss of the kitchen! You choose the ingredients you like and whip up meals to suit your specific tastes. Forget about strictly following recipes that are complicated… that requires you to buy special ingredients you will only use once then store till they expire… that calls for you to measure out precise amounts of each ingredient. All that is required is for you to have fun and experiment with blending ingredients that you like. Let your imagination rule… pick the items and create your masterpiece; from types of meats and vegetables, to how they are cooked, to what beautiful arrangement on your dinner plate. experimental cooking is also about you and the people you are preparing a meal for. You know that each person has their unique preferences, so experimental cooking is about helping you fulfill those preferences. Sounds complicated, you may think? But actually, it is rather simple; especially after you develop the basics that will forever change your mindset on cooking and open up a whole new dimension of creativity you never knew you already had within yourself.

Now let us share with you the little secrets of experimental cooking… the A, B, Cs if you will…

A. INGREDIENTS – The first key is for you to build on your knowledge of ingredients, as they are the basic building blocks for a good meal. You already know of many ingredients, now go and take a closer look; experience each ingredient individually and experiment with it. Everything edible can be an ingredient in your creation, so you need to know and understand each ingredient; from how it looks and tastes, to its texture, to how it behaves when cooked in different ways, to which other ingredients it is compatible with, to what happens if you add more or less of it to your food, etc. Since individuals experience things differently, you are your own expert; find out what you like and what you can do without. As you have your meals each day, take the opportunity to study the ingredients. Involve your family & friends and make it fun as you experience & experiment. At restaurants, and when you travel, question the chefs if you have a chance and gain perspectives into new ingredients you come across. For the computer savvy, you can also surf the web and quickly gain insight; there is tons of information online. Try typing the ingredient you’re interested in on your favorite search engine and discover a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips. As you get to know about more ingredients and become more aware of the characteristics of each ingredient, you will be able to expertly combine them to expand the number of new dishes in your cooking repertoire. There are endless combinations, so keep experimenting; you will discover many winners to surprise your guests. Have fun building up your own database of ingredients.

B. QUALITY – When you begin with great quality ingredients, you are certain to produce top quality meals; if you start with poor quality ingredients, it won’t come as a surprise that the results will naturally be disappointing. Quality can easily be determined when you use all your senses… Use your sense of Sight to look carefully at the ingredients. Check the color to see if it is bright or dull, consistent or has blemishes. Is the shape evenly symmetrical or distorted. Look also at the texture of the items. Your sense of Sight is the first sense that you will usually use when checking anything; and it is a powerful tool in determining the Quality of any ingredient. Practice and see if you can tell what the Quality of an item is, just by looking at it. You will quickly be able to use your Sight to initially screen ingredients to determine if they are worth a closer inspection or to move on. Use your sense of Hearing to listen to the tone when gently tapping or shaking an item. Does it sound hollow or solid, is there a rattling sound? Hearing is not frequently used, but can be helpful in a closer inspection of certain fruits, nuts and vegetables. Use your sense of Smell to sniff out fragrant fruits and the aroma of fresh herbs. You can also detect items to avoid when they emit off smelling odors. Train up your nose and your sense of Smell will come in handy when you search for Quality foods. If you have the opportunity, sample the items before making your decision. Besides checking that the Taste is what it should be, also observe the texture or feel it has in your mouth, when you chew on it, and when it slides down your throat. This is also your chance to confirm that you really like the Taste of the ingredient before buying. Your sense of Taste will be your most important tool when it comes to blending ingredients. With a well developed sense of Taste, you will be able to determine what ingredients, and in what quantities, will go well together. Finally is your sense of Touch. Go ahead, pick up and handle the ingredients you are inspecting. How does it feel in your hands? Is it heavy or light, hard or soft, firm or supple, smooth or rough, dry or moist? You can tell a good deal about the Quality of an ingredient by how it feels; you just need a little practice to fine tune and “get the feel” of things. Practice using all your senses to fully examine ingredients and learn how to pick Top Quality items for your specific needs. It is now time for you to exercise your senses whenever you go shopping for food. Have a good time tuning up your skills in search of Quality at the markets and stores.

C. DESIGNING – Now comes the fun part of Designing your meals. The first consideration is who you are cooking for and what are their likes and dislikes. Do take some time to ask your family, friends, or guests about their eating preferences, especially if they require special diets for health reasons, or are allergic to certain foods. From this mini survey, you can plan a meal that will delight everyone.

You can now begin to narrow down your choices; consider if you want to do appetizers and/or soup, what are the best choice for your main courses, and if you wish to make desert? Design a simple meal or an elaborate feast: it’s all up to you. Use your knowledge of ingredients to decide on what blend of ingredients will achieve the unique flavors you want. Also consider how the ingredients will look together, and how you can make your dishes visually appealing. At the beginning, you may feel more comfortable sticking to traditional flavors and cooking tried and tested recipes. But as you gain confidence after experimenting with traditional foods by altering their taste to suit your preferences better, then its time to be bold and creative; try to design something totally new once in a while. It is also fairly easy for you to design meals to take into account differing preferences among your guests; simply separate your ingredients and add or withhold them into individual portions of your dishes. In the Design phase, you may wish to consider the cooking style as well, since the way food is cooked will make a difference in the outcome in terms of taste and texture.

D. COOKING STYLES – Mastering many Cooking Styles is another way to increase the diversity of your meals. Brush up on your cooking skills by not only practicing the various Styles of Cooking, but also by paying close attention to the details of the cooking process, what each Cooking Style does to your food and the resulting appearance, taste & texture. experiment with variations to the standard method (different temperature, time, sequence, combinations, etc.) and observe the results. Learn new Styles as you come across them, and also try your hand at inventing new ways to cook. There are many methods of cooking your food; some more conventional like Baking, Barbecuing, Braising, Roasting, Stewing and Steaming. Some are more exotic like cooking meat on a slab of hot stone. So do try out the various cooking styles on your favorite foods and discover which are to your liking. Also experiment with combinations; for example you can first steam a lobster, then cut it open and put some cheese in before grilling for a short while to melt and brown the cheese sauce. Think of new ways to cook, after all its just applying heat to food. You can also broaden your knowledge and skills by observing how people of various lands cook their meals in special ways when you travel.

E. PRESENTATION – The final element is how you serve up the feast that you have prepared. Food Presentation is the art of making your meals visually appealing. Since the objective is to serve up something that will look good, experiment with what you think will look nice when assembled together. If you want to keep it simple, just focus on the dish and what is to be put on it. If you want to pull out all the stops, then go with a theme of your choice and dress up everything, including the dining room. Let’s run through some ideas to move you along… On the simple end of the scale, all you need to do is select a suitable bowl or plate and arrange your food on it, then add something to garnish. The easiest is to place all your food onto serving plates for your guest to help themselves. Select large enough bowls and plates, matching if desired, that can hold the amount of food you have prepared. You can fill a serving bowl with soup and sprinkle some chopped spring onions on top to garnish. Fish can be served on an oval plate, or one of those fish shaped dishes, and you can arrange some lettuce and round slices of lemon to decorate. For prawns, try arranging them in a circle on a round plate, and put sauce for dipping right in the center. You can be more creative when you do individual servings. For the main course, you can simply lay out the meat, potatoes and vegetables on different sectors of the plate in a traditional manner; just remember to include ingredients with nice colors and arrange them in your chosen pattern. Try using carrots or tomatoes to add bright orange or red to your dish. Use corn, pasta or potatoes for a dose of yellow. How about tri-color pasta to really mix up the colors? Appetizers and deserts are my favorites as you can really let your imagination go… and come up with really delightful creations. Try using a Burgundy wine glass for your shrimp cocktail, then plant a stick of celery with the leafy end up on one side and garnish the lip of the glass with a circular slice of lemon for a lovely presentation of this favorite appetizer. Now go forth and create visual masterpieces to serve your guests; they will surely be astonished at your work of art. If you need more ideas, you can always look at how the chefs at your local restaurants present their dishes, or you can flip through food magazines, or surf the internet for tons of ideas to get you on your way.

Now that you know the Secrets to experimental cooking, all you need to do is to start cooking; after all, as the saying goes… “Practice Makes Perfect”.

How to Retain Janitorial Workers

February 22nd, 2012

Copyright 2006 The Janitorial Store

Due to the nature of the cleaning business it can be hard to keep good employees. Your good employees may be lured away by competitors, leave for a “regular” 8 to 5 job, or leave to take a job in another field that pays more. Good employees and employees that can be promoted to supervisory positions can be difficult to find and retain. The following are some tips that can help you keep those good employees on board.

- Develop talent. Pay attention to your employees and look for ones that have leadership qualities and show that they are creative when it comes to solving problems. These are the employees you want to train to be supervisors. Give them added responsibilities and when the time is right promote them into positions that supervise others.

- Communicate frequently with your employees. Never take your employees for granted. Ask for their ideas or suggestions for improving the way tasks are performed in your company. Talk to your employees and show an interest in their lives – ask about their families and hobbies – it shows that you care about them not just as an employee, but as a person.

- Show your appreciation. Thank your employees for their hard work and let them know you appreciate their dedication. Everyone likes a pat on the back once in awhile.

- Learn to delegate. You can test key staff by giving them more authority and responsibilities. This will also help you to identify which members of your staff have the qualities of a good supervisor.

- Provide direction as well as feedback. Make sure that each employee knows what you expect of him or her. Let your employees know how you’ll evaluate their performance. When you evaluate your employees provide feedback that will help them to improve their job performance.

- Offer training and educational opportunities. Find training sessions and seminars for your employees, or create your own. Look for training not only on cleaning, but in management and business areas as well.

- Offer competitive wages. As your business grows, you want to be sure that you have dependable and well trained employees to handle the workload. Develop a plan early on for compensating your employees and decide how you will move the most motivated employees up on your pay scale.

Keeping good employees is a challenge in any business, but can be even more difficult in the cleaning field. You can increase your chances of keeping your employees by remembering the above tips. Make your employees feel like they are an integral and important part of your cleaning business and they will be more likely to stay and help your business grow.

Did My Email Message Get There?

February 21st, 2012

Email systems are notorious for sending messages to la la land, never to be heard from again. And, email viruses are continually running rampant and wreaking havoc. So, if youre worried that your message didnt arrive, you have a valid concern.

How can you verify that someone received your message without using the return receipt function and running the risk of offending the person? What other options are available to ensure your message was received?

If you think your message didnt arrive because you havent received a response in a reasonable amount of time, try sending another message. Heres the magic trick. Make it clear that the only purpose of this second correspondence is to confirm receipt of the first message.

Example

Here are a few examples of a second message you can send to verify an email was received.

Sample One (Informal tone):
Im not trying to rush you. I simply want to verify that you received my message.

Sample Two (More formal tone):

Please verify receipt of this message now. I look forward to your response to the inquiry at a later time.

Note: The purpose of these examples is to provide you with sample wording. Be sure to put the message in your own words.

Example

As a writer, I send a lot of messages to magazine editors. Theyre notorious for two things: 1) changing their email addresses; and 2) not responding to correspondence.

So, Im often in a quandary when I dont receive a response to my correspondence. Did the editor not receive my proposal? Is the editor simply not interested? Its a difficult situation.

In most cases, Ill send a second message to verify receipt. Let me share the results of follow-up messages I sent to three people.

In two instances, the recipients hadnt received my original message. In these cases, they thanked me for following up and for re-sending my proposal. (And, they both bought articles!)

In the third instance, the person had received my original message. I received a curt reply telling me to be more patient. He was clearly irritated.

The point of this example is this isnt an exact science. There are no clearly defined answers to the issue of verifying receipt of an email message. You have to use good judgment and analyze each situation in order to use email more effectively.

Hundreds of Thousands Come Together to Pray

February 21st, 2012

On Sept. 8, hundreds of thousands of people will come together in prayer during the 12th annual Unity World Day of Prayer. This interfaith event is open to people of all religions and all walks of life.

Unity is a worldwide movement founded in 1889 that helps people of all faiths apply positive spiritual principles to their daily lives. It is best known for Daily Word, a monthly magazine of inspirational messages that is distributed to about 1 million people in 175 countries.

Since 1994, millions of people have been embraced in prayer during special World Day of Prayer vigils held at many of the nearly 900 Unity churches and centers around the world. Last year, participants offered prayers for an estimated 1.3 million people during the prayer vigil at the Unity world headquarters at Unity Village, Mo.

“This is a day filled with the energy of prayer,” said Tom Zender, president of Unity. “As people around the world join in prayer on this day, the energy intensifies. It will be a day of transformation.”

Silent Unity, the trans-denominational prayer ministry of Unity, maintains a 24-hour prayer vigil every day of the year and receives more than 2 million letters, telephone calls and Internet requests for prayer annually.

To learn more about the Unity World Day of Prayer, to submit names of friends and family members for the prayer vigil and to enjoy an affirmation set to sound and motion, visit www.worlddayofprayer.org/news.You also can find local Unity churches that serve as host centers for local World Day of Prayer activities.

“World Day of Prayer is an opportunity to transform the world through prayer,” Zender said. “Praying together, we open our minds and hearts to the unconditional love of God that heals, inspires, guides and strengthens.”

It’s FRL on purpose, folks!

February 21st, 2012

FRL is an acronym for Filter, Regulator and Lubricator, devices used to condition the compressed air from a compressor before it gets to your application be that through an air valve to air cylinders, powering air tools and so on.

When called in to troubleshoot a complaint from a client that their compressed air filter, regulator or lubricator wasnt working, the first response is to ask the symptoms. Common complaints are, the regulator is not working, and its leaking oil, or my air filter fills up too quickly. Have you ever had these problems?

The acronym FRL is placed in this order deliberately.

These air treatment units, whether they are an assembly (combination FR + L) or a number of single components – Filter + Regulator + Lubricator – installed in a row, must always be installed with the Filter first, the Regulator next, and the lubricator last.

The filter must ‘see’ the air coming from the compressed air supply line first, as its the defense against compressed air-borne water and particulates. If you think about it, you would want the filter to remove contaminants and free water from the compressed air before that air gets to more sensitive down-stream components, including the regulator and the lubricator.

The regulator is installed after the filter to ensure that the air getting to the regulator is as clean as that type of compressed air filter will allow, thus increasing the life span and mean-time-between-failures for the regulator.

The regulators purpose is to regulate a lower pressure to the downstream application. Some folks are of the opinion that the regulator can be used to dial-up the pressure. This is true, as long as it’s understood that the pressure thats being selected is at a level below the upstream supply pressure. You cannot use a regulator to increase the pressure downstream higher than the supply pressure upstream of that regulator.

Compressors are usually cyclic, meaning that the air pressure in the lines from them varies according to where the pressure is in the compressor receiver. When the air pressure in the compressor receiver falls to the low level set point, the compressor will kick in, and bring the pressure in the receiver up to the high level set point, at which point the compressor will stop. This cycle repeats, sometimes quite quickly, depending on the compressed air demand in the shop. A regulator will dampen the pressure swings from the system as the compressor kicks on and off, ensuring that your application, if the regulator pressure is set at the correct level, will see a constant, steady pressure.

If the regulator is incorrectly installed, upstream from the filter instead of after it, not only is the regulator not protected from air-borne water and particulates, it will negatively affect the flow of air to the filter, decreasing its effectiveness.

The lubricators purpose is to provide a steady, metered stream of the appropriate lubricant to the downstream application, be that an air tool, or an air valve / cylinder combination.

The lubricator is installed last in the FRL series to ensure that the lubricant has ready access to the components desired to be lubricated though many modern pneumatic circuits may not need a lubricator at all, what with the high cycle type lubricants that are commonly used by air actuator manufacturer’s.

If the lubricator is incorrectly installed after the filter and before the regulator, the lubricant flow will negatively affect the operation of the regulator. The regulator may be over lubricated to the point where it doesnt work properly. This may be the cause of the lubricators all gummed up and not working properly complaint. Most compressed air regulators are relieving type, and if the lubricator is “feeding” lubricant to the regulator, lubricant will wick from the relieving port, hence the “regulator’s leaking oil” complaint.

If the lubricator is installed upstream from the filter and the regulator, the lubricant stream from the lubricator will simply be intercepted by the filter, and not get downstream to the application at all. Thus the filter is filling up too quickly complaint.

In the absence of the lubricator, the correct installation if filter first, then regulator.

If the unit you have is a combined filter regulator, its internally plumbed to have the air filtered through the filter half before the compressed air gets to the regulator.

Remember, its FRL on purpose!

High-Quality Inexpensive Hiking Boots – How To Choose And Where To Find Them

February 21st, 2012

This article describes where to look, what to look for, and how to choose day-hiking boots. Knowing where to look and what to look for, you can be sure to get the high-quality hiking boots you need without paying extra for features you don’t need.

Day-hiking boots range anywhere from $40.00 to $150.00. The high end of that range is beginning to cross into backpacking boots, but anything below that range is either an exceptionally good deal or an imitation hiking boot that will disappoint you badly.

So, let’s talk about the kinds of places to shop for hiking boots, features to look for, pitfalls to avoid, and techniques to make sure you have the right fit.

Where to Shop for Hiking Boots

If you have never done any serious hiking, you will want to buy your first serious hiking boots in a hands-on experience. I’m being honest here (habit of mine). Yes, it is in my interest to persuade you to buy your hiking boots through my Web site, but I won’t do that if it is not appropriate for you. Even aside from ethical considerations, it would be bad business for me to create a lot of dissatisfied customers telling their friends about their bad experience. No, I’m just being honest. I don’t want to take your money and leave you unhappy. Buy your first pair of hiking boots at a brick-and-mortar store where you can handle the boots and try them for proper fit. Then, when you have enough experience to know what you want in your second pair of hiking boots (or third, or …), you can take advantage of the lower prices available on the Web.

When shopping for hiking boots, look for an outdoor equipment store rather than a shoe store. The sales clerks in a general shoe store are not likely to know the difference between real hiking boots and fashion imitations of hiking boots. You might pay more money at an outdoor equipment store, but you will realize the savings out on the trail.

Once you’re in the store, ask about some of the things you read in this article. If the sales clerk doesn’t know what a scree collar is or why soft outer soles are better than hard, look for another sales clerk, or another store.

If you are ready to buy your hiking boots on the Web, you can take advantage of the best of both worlds. You can buy from a high-volume store that has the best prices, but first get your advice, recommendations, and reviews from affiliated Web sites that specialize in hiking equipment.

Wherever you choose to buy your hiking boots, make sure there is a reliable, knowledgeable person in the loop somewhere. If the sales clerk or Web site seems too eager about making the sale and not interested enough in discussing and comparing features, you should look somewhere else before you make a final decision.

Especially when you are shopping the Web sites, you may need to pay attention to brands. Certain brands have a well-deserved reputation for good quality, and you should not ignore that. On the other hand, some brands have an overblown reputation that often has more to do with fashion than with genuine quality. The only way to know the difference, and to find the quality you need without paying for fashion that you don’t care about, is to talk to those who know the difference and to read reviews from people who have actually used the hiking boots in the field.

Features to Look For in Day-Hiking Boots

Here is what you need to look for:

* Deep tread in a soft sole for traction.

* Appropriate height (just above the ankle).

* Soft, wide, thick scree collar (the padding around the top that keeps pebbles out without chafing your Achilles tendon).

* Fiberglass shank. Steel is okay, but fiberglass is better in day-hiking boots because it’s lighter. Full-length is preferred, but shorter shanks may be acceptable if you are planning more moderate hiking.

* Tongue attached at least up to the top of the foot, or higher if you plan on crossing streams frequently.

* Crampon attachments (good, but not essential, unless you do a lot of hiking in icy conditions).

* Hooks for the laces above the top of the foot.

* Choose eyelets, D-rings, or webbing for the lower lace attachment points as a matter of personal taste. My experience does not indicate any one to be better than the others for day-hiking boots.

* Good insulation and padding all around, firm on the bottom, with a tough but smooth lining.

* Double stitching on all visible seams.

* More leather and less fabric is better. Split leather is fine (and you’ll almost never find full-grain leather in a day-hiking boot), but not full suede.

* Fewer seams is better.

Most of these features are self-evident, but here are a few techniques for evaluating specific features.

* Tread should be at least two fifths of the total thickness of the sole.

* Measure the softness of the tread surface by pressing your thumbnail into it. You should be able to make a visible indentation that springs out in a second or so.

* Measure the stiffness of the shank by holding the heel in one hand and the toe in the other, and twisting the sole. You should not be able to twist it at all.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid in Hiking Boots

The biggest problem you’re likely to find in shopping for day-hiking boots is cheaply-made “imitation” hiking boots. They look like hiking boots, but they’re not built to stand up to trail conditions. They will not last long, and they will not give you the traction and water resistance you need.

You can tell an “imitation” hiking boot from the real thing by these characteristics:

* Mild tread, less than about two-fifths the thickness of the sole.

* Hard tread surface that you can barely indent with your fingernail.

* Non-attached tongue.

* Non-rigid sole that you can twist by hand.

* No scree collar. There may be patches of leather or a different color of fabric that look like a scree collar, but if it doesn’t have thick, soft padding around the top, it’s not a real hiking boot. It won’t keep the pebbles out, and it might chafe or constrict your Achilles tendon.

Fitting your Hiking Boots

You must fit your hiking boots with any orthopedic inserts, off-the-shelf insoles, and the hiking socks you intend to wear with them. A good rule of thumb is to start with one full size larger than your regular street shoes.

With all the inserts and insoles in place and your hiking socks on, but with no laces in the boot, put the boot on and push your foot all the way forward until your toes touch the front. You should have just enough room behind the heel to slide your finger all the way in.

Next, lace the boot up snugly and walk around. The boots will be stiff and uncomfortable because they’re not broken in, but they should not allow your foot to slide or rub.

Stand on a steep slope with your toes pointing down. (Use the fitting horse where you’re supposed to put your foot to lace the shoe while sitting. Go ahead and stand on it.) You should be able to wiggle your toes, and they should not touch the front of the boots.

If you bought the boots via the Web, do this fit-test as soon as you get them. Even if you think you know your size, boots from different manufacturers might fit differently. Check the size and fit immediately, and return them for a replacement if they don’t fit right.

Conclusion

If you are looking for your first pair of serious hiking boots, you must do your shopping in an outdoor equipment store where you can handle the boots and talk to knowledgeable sales staff. Only if you have some experience with day-hiking boots, take advantage of the bargains available on the Web.

Check for the features that identify a quality hiking boot, and avoid “fake” hiking boots.

Bring all the inserts and socks you will wear with your hiking boots, and check for a firm but comfortable fit with no rubbing or sliding.

Look for quality, and expect to pay for it, but don’t pay more than you have to for features that don’t contribute to the durability and comfort of your hiking boots.

New Age Of Movies – How To Buy Any Movie Online

February 21st, 2012

Your key to the movie world. Buy movies online!

Do you absolutely love watching movies? Well, most of us do! But what you probably don’t know is how internet can be an effective tool for getting and watching movies.

One way internet can be used to get the latest movies is ordering them from stores on CDs or DVDs. Yes, this is much easier than driving around and trying to find the needed one in stores. But after The Movie is found and the money is paid you have to wait. It can be hours, days or weeks… or just minutes! Here is the most nerve-saving way to buy movies online.

How to download movies?

With the use of internet you can download movies directly to your computer. First you look through the site or use a search to type in the movie’s name. If the name consists of two or more words, use parentheses around it. For your convenience there are various catalogues: by name (a special catalogue for each letter), by year, genre or country. For those who are looking for something fresh the latest additions are always on the main page. Found something you like?? Then sign into to your account so you can make purchases. If you don’t have an account, create one on our website for free!

Finally, here’s how to buy movies online two different ways:

1-Click. You can buy and download using 1-Click. When you click a ‘buy’ button, the item is charged to your account and downloaded to your iTunes library

Shopping Cart. You can buy using the shopping cart. You can add items to your shopping cart to purchase or delete later.

What kinds of movies there are?

In the internet you can find greatest collection of different genres – comedy movies, drama, beautiful romance movies and musicals, action and horror movies, great adventures and fantasy, powerful historical ones, well-loved westerns and much, much more. Though source is quite new, there are old movies too. Your children will love the great animated cartoons, serials and family movies. So not only you, but all of your family members can enjoy!

Exactly like the movies in stores, which can be on VHS, CDs or DVDs, movies you get from online can be different in format as well. We offer movies in three most common versions – DVD, DivX and PDA.

The DVD version matches the original DVD resolution (720px wide) and its quality is almost like the one of original DVD. It fits PC, laptop or home video the best. It is for those who prefer the highest quality of both video and audio. If you have a home theatre, this version is the only possible one, because of the 6 channel surround sound and high image resolution.

DivX’s stereo sound and high resolution can satisfy the requirements of most PCs, laptops and TVs. This version is smaller in size and it will take you much less time to download a movie. This version is the most popular one because it’s space-saving, yet good enough in terms of quality.

The PDA version is designed for portable digital devices. (yes, you can use those, too!) Its resolution and sound are optimized for these portable devices and the size of the file is even smaller then for a DivX.

There’s no optimal choice – you download what you think is best!

What it takes you to get movies this way

Unlike you might think, you will never be asked to download or install any additional software. Just use your favorite browser and media player. After you download movies, you own them and use for as long as you wish.

A complete movie is usually from $1.99 to $4.99.

And, of course, you need Internet connection. You can buy movies online even with a modem, but the higher the speed, the faster you get the movie you are dying to see!

…And even more options for you!

What if you don’t know if you want this movie? Find out more about it! Here’s how:

- Video & Audio Previews. This way is probably the best if you want to get into the atmosphere of the movie and find out how well it is directed. Though it takes a couple of minutes to download, it’s worth it!

- Stills. They are our favorite pictures taken from the movie. Like little snapshots of the most important scenes, stills can be seen in no time to help make the right decision.

- Storylines. A little bit of reading – and you know what this all is about… except for what happened in the very end. By the way, what do you expect it to be?

And one more feature you’ll love. After you download movies, you can burn them! To CDs or DVDs, to keep on the shelf or to share with friends and family – an extra copy is never a problem.

It’s faster, easier and cheaper to buy movies online. No more rental late fees!

Improving Our Landscape Images.

February 21st, 2012

All the worlds cameras, films and other photographic equipment are no more than tools for making landscape pictures. Cameras dont think for themselves. Whether we use digital or film camera, the same photographic principles apply.

We dont have to stick to many rules to produce great landscape images, but knowing what they are will make your pictures more successful. There are two salient points in landscape photography: how to compose your image, and how to use available natural light in any given situation.

Lets start off with light: There are three basic qualities of light. intensity, direction and colour.

Intensity: refers to the strength of light. If the sun is high in the sky, light can be harsh and too strong. Cloudy days bring soft and defused light.

Direction: this refers to light placement. There are three categories of light placement: front, back and side-lighting. Side lighting produces more texture between light and shade.

Colour: the colour of sunlight varies depending upon conditions and time of day. If the sun shines at the beginning or the end of the day, the colour of the light will be much warmer, and will lead to a much more dramatic scene.

Understanding natural light will develop your ability to see. You will start to see the beauty of light in a different and exciting way.

In landscape photography it is very important to take care with composition. A normal scene can be transformed by paying close attention to detail. Composition is all about how you arrange the elements in front of you.

Here are a few ideas in which you may find useful.

Lead with lines: To lead with lines into the main part of the scene will draw your viewer into your image. These lines dont have to be straight. Lines, such as tracks, riverbanks or fences, may work successfully.

Foreground interest: Simple foreground objects can give your landscape a greater sense of depth. Use a small aperture (f/22) to keep the entire scene in focus.

Natural frames: Frame your scene with the elements all around you. This will focus attention on the main part of the picture. Trees make great natural frames.

These are just a few essential guidelines, and combined with a good eye, you have all you need to get the best out of photography – especially landscape photography. These are just a few rules to get you started, but like all rules, they are there to be broken.

Haunted Houses, Dead Tenants and a Big Tummy Ache

February 21st, 2012

World renown psychic and author Jane Doherty has found herself in a very prominent position on her new reality TV show called Dead Tenants, which is hosted by The Learning Channel. I say its a prominent position because of the phenomena that separates Janes psychic abilities from those of other psychics.

Whenever there are ghosts around Jane, she has an amazing physical reaction to them and handling it is no small feat either. The reaction Jane has is that her stomach area actually enlarges by as much as six inches around within seconds. And, Jane tells us that its extremely painful to her when this happens. If you watch Jane while this stomach expansion is happening, youre going to hear her moaning and see her wincing and trust me, its not dramatics the womans in definite pain.

With regards to her expanding tummy, Jane says, It feels like a contraction when a woman is in labor, but it doesn’t ever release me until the spirit leaves. Instead, the stomach expands as if I was nine months pregnant. Jane actually describes it as very intense muscle cramps, where her stomach is physically gripped by the ghost, and if you watch, the belly will actually lift up. Jane continues, Often I can tell by the grip whether it is a female, male or child spirit. It first happened to me in 1990, when I investigated my first haunted house with a researcher.

The belly area is associated with the third charka located at the solar plexus, which is the area that dominates the gifts of telepathy, clairvoyance, clairsentience and an awareness of astral entities. Its interesting that historically the belly area is associated with bodys core of energy sometimes called the Chi Point or the Hara, both of which translate literally to mean belly. Its also interesting that historically, psychics felt their gift came from their gut called reading with the pit of the stomach where today, most psychics describe their gift coming from their third eye charka, between the eyes and centered in the middle of the forehead. With Jane Doherty, it seems to make good sense that the physical phenomena of Jane Dohertys expanded stomach would be directly related to her psychic gift.

Janes devout belief in the power of God comes through in all that she does because she feels strongly that her psychic abilities are a God-given talent. Using her psychic abilities allows Jane to bring comfort to people whose hearts are hurting, and hope to those who need it most. And, thats her personal goal on Dead Tenants whose families are in desperate need of help and knowledge to deal with their homes ghosts.

The Dead Tenants TV show follows the journeys of the Preternatural Research Society (PRS) a team of paranormal investigators through the attics, basements, living rooms and back yards of some of the most haunted houses in the country. Coming to the aid of families experiencing very unwanted ghosts and unexplainable activity in their homes, Jane Doherty and the PRS team do their best to assist the families. The Dead Tenants show weaves the historical, scientific and psychic into a rich tapestry to help the viewer better understand the hauntings.

“There was never a question of how I would use my gift,” Jane says firmly. “I have taken every possible opportunity to help others.” Jane Doherty is the real deal, on TV and in print. Her words are like the words of her book – so compelling, you won’t be able to put it down.

Jane Dohertys book, Awakening the Mystic Gift: The Surprising Truth About What It Means to Be Psychic, chronicles Jane’s own psychic awakening and what it truly means to be psychic. For those seeking more information on what it means to be psychic, this book is a very compelling read.

Jane Doherty is a gifted psychic and medium of international acclaim. Many refer to her as the “real deal” because of her accuracy and sincere caring nature. In fact, Hans Holzer, known best for his many books on ghosts and paranormal activities, has named Jane Doherty as “one of the top twenty psychics in the world.” A born teacher, Jane feels part of her own purpose in life is to teach others to open to their own psychic abilities, and for this reason Jane has brought her psychic teachings to an online format through the Herbal-College.com website. Here Jane has established a book club for her readers to explore more about their own psychic abilities with her personally, and Jane will also teach her multi-leveled Psychic Development courses at the Herbal-College.com website.

Outdoor Cooking Equipment – 20 Great Tips to Plan For the Coming Season

February 21st, 2012

Some people just love eating and some people just love cooking; but when it comes to cooking and eating outside most people say, hey, I love it.

So lets get to it.  Summer will soon be upon us and the outdoor season beckons. Its now the ideal time to think about those barbecues you’ll be having. Whether those meals will be on the patio or in the outback its now the time to ensure that you’ve got all your outdoor cooking equipment to hand and that you’ve got a good idea about how best to go about things.

There’s many that will argue, including me, that nothing tastes better than food cooked outdoors! Don’t you just love the aroma when cooking outdoors, the smells seems to just waft around as the food cooks and this makes everyone hungry. How is it that the food cooked outdoors always seems to smell so much nicer than when its cooked indoors?

Cooking outdoors comes in many guises. You and your family may prefer to use wood or charcoal because of those wonderful flavors that come from the charcoal and the smoke; or, you may prefer the cleanliness, control and  convenience of cooking with propane gas.  Whatever you prefer the market is now awash with great outdoor cooking equipment to make your cooking experience enjoyable and the results fabulous.

Now when it comes to choosing your outdoor cooking equipment a little thought is necessary as you can easily miss a trick or two and fall short when the time comes to perform!  So, here are 20 great tips to help you make the right decisions when planning this season’s outdoor cooking:

  1. Firstly you must decide will it be gas or charcoal; don’t fudge this one as its important; if you want ease and convenience go for gas grills; if you don’t mind a little extra trouble & time and your family loves the flavors that are picked up from the smoke then go for charcoal;
  2. If you go for charcoal always start the fire naturally, never use lighter fuels; let me say that again, never use lighter fuels! Why? Because no matter how long it is before you bring your food to the grill you’ll pick up those chemical smells…Yuk!;
  3. Ask yourself, are you making an investment for the future of just for the coming summer season; because thats how long cheap ‘stuff’ is going to last!  I recommend making an investment in the future, therefore go for quality; as you know in your heart, you pay for what you get! Don’t go cheap if you can afford better; for example: stainless steel looks better and lasts longer than aluminum and cleans up much better and easier; although it has to be said heat distributes more evenly and quickly with aluminum so the arguments are not always so clear cut; portable pick up and go grills are going to be great for tailgating and impromtu stops but they’ll be a disappointment on the patio when cooking for a group of  friends & family;
  4. There are many styles & sizes of outdoor grills, picking the right one to meet your needs and of course your budget is important, but remember that quality counts; you don’t want to be regretting your purchase half way through the summer! Go for the best you can.
  5. Think about where you’re going to be doing your cooking and buy your kit appropriately. Ask yourself, will we be cooking on the patio, or will you be tailgating or then again will we be going outback; this makes a big difference to your choice of kit; indeed you may decide that you need quite separate cooking equipment for the patio as opposed to when you’re getting out and about. Gas grills are heavier and bulkier than charcoal, on the patio that’s a bonus in the outback its a chore; gas grills cook quicker than the charcoal grills; some people hate gas grills by comparison because they love the flavors that wood bestows; gas grills are more expensive than charcoal ones etc. etc.
  6. Decide what style of cooking best suits you because the kit you’ll need will change with your preferred style of cooking. If you’re into Jambalaya cooking then you should buy Jambalaya pots, if your going to be frying whole turkeys then a turkey fryer kit will be ideal; do you prefer cast iron stove ware for cooking, Dutch ovens are great for simple outdoor cooking or do you prefer open grills;? The questions go on and on and only you know what the family are going to prefer. Its not as hard to think things through as you might think,  I suggest that you go to a store that sells the full range of equipment and ask yourself what’s going to work best for us?
  7. When cooking with propane check the level of gas in the cylinder and whenever possible have a second one in reserve. There’s nothing worse with friends and family hovering, the meal is half ready and the gas goes out!!! If you’ve a replacement, no problem, but if  you’ve not, just how bad can things get?
  8. Don’t forget basic safety advice when cooking outdoors; remember salmonella is just as happy and active outdoors as it is inside. So what to do? Keep those fresh meat  plates and your cooking utensils away from any plates and cooking utensils that you’ll be using for eating off. Yes i know its obvious but this is important and its easily forgotten especially by the kids if they take a hand;
  9. Will you betaking your cooking kit out in the outback or to the beach where there are safety regulations preventing the use of certain cooking methods; how annoying is it to arrive and then find your kit isn’t appropriate. And don’t think you’ll be okay they’ll never know. have you seen the recent damage that’s been caused by fires that get out of control; think safety first. Its important to remember that usually you find restrictions at picnic areas and on beaches & camping zones;
  10. When you find a great recipe that cooks well outside share it with family; especially the simple tips that made it work out so well. Many people are apprehensive about cooking out doors and even when they do they make simple errors that you could help them avoid making. Simple tips need passing on;
  11. Never pierce food on a BBQ or the juices will run out and it will dry out very quickly: most people who say they don’t like BBQs do so because they hate dried out tasteless food that so often arises from a smoldering BBQ
  12. Never cook meat too long as again it dries out
  13. Always make sure that meat is fully defrosted before starting cooking on your grill, not only is this dangerous to your health but the food will burn on the outside before you’ve cooked it in the inside!
  14. Try to cook slower rather than faster when cooking outdoors, except with you steaks of course, they need searing and a minimum of time is preferred for however well you like them cooked; [yes I know this goes against what conventional wisdom says and your desire to tuck ij but the rewards of slower cooked foods great exceed the extra time it takes; believe me
  15. Always let your meat rest after cooking without cutting it up. This allows the juices to settle and the full flavor to come out, it also means all the juices don’t run away across the serving plate; 7-10 minutes is all you need to wait and whilst the time is short the difference in flavor can be huge; try it.
  16. Try marinating your meats before barbecuing, and remember, the longer the better, overnight if you can. If you do the flavors of your cooking will be greatly enhanced and your friends will marvel;
  17. If you use a grill with a lid, keep it closed as much as possible. This improves the consistency of cooking due to the retention of the heat which otherwise is lost each time you open the grill; stop worrying and go and have a chat;
  18. Try some of the many free recipes you’ll find online; there are so many and some are really good. Don’t get hooked on complication though; keeping things simple and experiment are the keys. But equally don’t get into the ideas of those that say quick and easy is best go for things that cook quickly! NO. Marinades are simple and add tremendous flavor, cook slower than quickly and you’ll retain more flavors;
  19. Try out Dutch cooking; its easy and straightforward and the flavors are great; look for Dutch cooking recipes on the web;
  20. Keep your outdoor cooking fun; share the joy of the cooking with friends & family. Try to get the kids involved; if you do you’ll develop in them a lifetime passion for cooking, which is often hard to do in the kitchen. Better still you’ll have a laugh and if you involve your friends you’ll start appreciate them in totally different ways than before; its like a new way of bonding. You’ll start to see them in a totally different light…… interesting! … Oh, just one quick point, but take care the opposite can work out too.

February 21st, 2012

More and more women are entering the workforce and most of them are moms. Working Mothers are among the most vulnerable to stress and excessive fatigue created by trying to balance between work, family and social life. Stress and anxiety can cause working mom’s to be tired and lacking in energy. There are a lot of things vying for her attention: co-workers, the boss, the kids, the husband, the best friend, dealing with their in-laws, her church activities, and even her bible study group friends. It’s enough to make a mom feel so drowsy, lethargic or listlessness.
